We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic General Manager to lead and grow our Industry Business! This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll shape strategy, drive performance, and inspire a high-performing sales team to deliver outstanding results.
In this role, you will take ownership of business planning and execution, empower and support the Industry Sales Team, and champion a culture of strong leadership, collaboration, and continuous development. You’ll build and strengthen customer relationships, deliver exceptional service, and play a key role in accelerating IPD’s growth and profitability.
Reporting directly to the Executive General Manager of Sales, this opportunity is open across New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (QLD), and Victoria (VIC)—giving you the flexibility to be based where it suits you best.
About the role:
As General Manager – Industry, you will play a pivotal role in driving performance, growth, and profitability across the business. This is a hands-on leadership position where you’ll combine strategic thinking with operational execution to deliver strong commercial outcomes.
Taking full ownership of the Industry Business P&L, ensuring financial targets are met while identifying opportunities for growth and cost efficiency.
Developing and implementing a comprehensive sales strategy, including managing the execution of approved business and action plans to drive performance.
Supporting, coaching, and mentoring Industry Salespeople to achieve sales, margin, and order targets through effective supervision and capability development.
Assessing and driving team training and development needs, coordinating with Customer Service and Technical Support to ensure high levels of competence and performance.
Maintaining a strong understanding of the national market, including customer segments, sales opportunities, and competitor activities and offerings.
Collaborating with IPD business units and key customers, providing regular market insights and feedback to the CEO and Product Marketing team to support strategic decision-making.
Desired Skills and Experience
About you:
Relevant tertiary qualifications or degree in business, sales, engineering, related discipline or relevant industry experience.
Extensive experience in the Electrical or a similar distribution environment.
Strong understanding of commercial terms, pricing, and wholesale business operations.
Proven track record in sales leadership, team management, and business development.
Experience in monitoring performance goals, metrics, and overall team outcomes.
Proven experience in managing targets, budgets, and financial objectives.
Knowledge of and experience using customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead, by example, and work effectively as part of a team.
Planning effectively and maintaining a structured, results-oriented approach to achieving objectives.
Demonstrating strong communication, negotiation, and influencing capabilities.
Maintaining a high level of self-motivation, accountability, and competitiveness while embracing challenges.
Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong negotiation and influencing skills.
Ability to build and maintain strong, long-term customer relationships.
